Home & Away

Well we are through the first homestand of the season and that only means one thing…the first away trip has begun. And it is a doozie, 7 days on the road at two different stadiums that are both 7+ hours away…meaning I am definitely not driving by myself to these upcoming games. So here I sit. Alone. Bummer! I’m so glad I have my sweet little fur baby Lili, if I didn’t I might go crazy. But still, I foresee a lot of TV in my immediate future!! Oh yeah, and listening to the games over the radio of course. Any-who, I’ll let you know how I end up occupying the rest of my time later (AKA – when I finally figure it out myself ;-) ). What I REALLY want to talk about right now is baseball! Surprise, Surprise!

The Trenton Thunder are 3-3. Addison has only played in 3 out of the 6 games, but he has managed to play all 4 infield positions during those games! Mr. Versatility is his name right now, that’s for sure. Saturday he played short stop, yesterday he played third base and first base, and today he played first base and second base. Although it is a little bit stressful seeing him at different positions all the time, I actually kind of like it! It’s already exciting enough watching him make great plays at the positions that I’m used to seeing him play at. But when he goes out to play a position that he’s only had experience at a handful of times and continues to make great plays, it is just plain thrilling! He’s been doing well at the plate too, he is currently batting .300 with 4 RBIs. Another thing, today was the Thunder manager’s, Tony Franklin, 1000th career win. So it was a pretty exciting day for the team!

Saying goodbye to Addison is never easy – even when it’s for such a short time. It’s safe to say I can’t wait to get him back next week! For now I’ll have to make do with phone calls and face time.

The link below is a video from the game today. (Addison had 2 doubles and 3 RBIs!)

Getting Back into the Swing of Baseball

This weekend has been so good! Minor league spring training games started yesterday, so for the past two days I’ve got to watch my man do what he does best! There is nothing like the start of spring training games. It’s when you get back in the habit of watching baseball every single day, and you sit there thinking “this is what has been missing in my life for the past 6 months”. I’d definitely say that even though the off-season is always wonderful and much needed after a very long 6 months of non stop games, there is absolutely nothing like the feeling of baseball season. I have so much pride while watching my husband play ball. He is talented and determined, and puts 110% into everything he does! If you don’t know us, I’ll fill you in on our current situation…Addison was drafted out of college as a short stop and he had a little bit of experience at 3rd base. Fast forward to today, he is a “super utility”, meaning he plays basically all positions (shortstop, 3rd base, 1st base, and catcher mostly…but there have been a few days in the outfield, and even one day in the bullpen).  He truly does play every single one of those position very, very well…not that I’m biased or anything ;-) . Today he caught, and yesterday he played 3rd. Both days he went 1-2 at the plate. Yep, I’m a happy girl!

I also had the opportunity to attend a conference for the women of baseball and had such a wonderful time meeting the wives/girlfriends/fiances of players from different organizations and from all different levels of the game. I have some of the best girlfriends, but they just don’t always understand this lifestyle (nor would I ever expect them to without living through it themselves). So it was really nice just to be able to sit and talk with these ladies because they were all at varying points in their “baseball life”, just like me. So all in all I am completely happy with my very first baseball filled weekend of the year.

Oh yeah, my baseball tan is starting to come back again :-) !!!
