It has already been one week since we arrived here in the North East, and we are 4 games into the 2012 season with the Trenton Thunder. Yesterday was Easter and thankfully we had an off day so I got to have a whole day with my husband. It was actually the first Easter we have ever been able to spend together! We started the day by going to church with a few other players and their wives, and we all went to lunch afterwards. I spent the rest of the afternoon cooking Easter dinner for Addison and our other roommates. It was my very first experience cooking a holiday meal all on my own and it was actually a success! I was so happy to be able to provide somewhat of a normal holiday to these boys who so often have to miss special occasions because their job does not allow time for things like that. Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, 4th of July, birthdays, weddings, and for some even Thanksgiving and Christmas are all special days that baseball players cannot usually take the time to celebrate with their families.
Since this year is the first I’ve been able to travel with Addison during the season, yesterday was my very first taste of living so far away from family on a holiday. It was tough because I already miss being away from them so much. This part of the baseball life I don’t think I’ll ever get used to. I’m living this life with my husband now, and we both have to make sacrifices for each other…giving up some holidays with our family so that I can be with him just happens to be one of them. Although I did miss our family, we had such a wonderful day! I hope everyone else had a very Happy Easter!
The sermon at church included this verse that resounded with me and I wanted to share…“And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” Romans 5:5
